WELCOME
"Clean and sinewy in build, the entire dog was one live wire. His character was on a par with his exterior qualities; marvellous in his obedient fidelity to his master, and above all else, the straightforward nature of a gentleman with a boundless zest for living.
Never idle, always on the go; well disposed to harmless people, but no cringer, mad about children and always in love.
He was in Heaven when someone was occupied with him and was then the most tractable of dogs."
- Captain Max von Stephanitz, founding father of the breed.
There are seven local groups serving the North, South, East and West of Ireland.
There are four regional clubs covering all areas of the country, one in each province of Ireland (known as Landesgruppen Clubs) and named after the four provinces of Ireland, Ulster, Munster, Leinster and Connaught. The existing and new Ortsgruppen (Local Groups) of the German Shepherd Dog come under the control of their Landesgruppen Club, which in turn will answer to the GSA Council.
The GSA represents one of 75 countries with affiliated membership of the World Union of German Shepherd Dog Clubs (WUSV). Local groups can provide handlers and dogs with the very best training and experience at well equipped facilities in disciplines which include obedience, tracking, agility, ring craft and protection work. GSA members can now attain in Ireland, BH (the basic obedience, traffic safe dog test) AD (Endurance) Obedience, Tracking, and Protection for Schutzhund qualifications, all of which will be recognized throughout the world. Breed surveys will become a feature in Ireland with the assistance of visiting SV Breed Surveyors and will be recognized by the WUSV. GSA members are entitled to avail of the opportunity to have their dogs DNA registered, micro-chipped, and X-Rayed under the German Hip and Elbow scheme with the approval of local veterinary surgeons using the latest digital IT technology. The GSA in collaboration with the WUSV will introduce an addendum pedigree to the existing Irish kennel club and English kennel club pedigrees. This addendum will provide the owner, where possible, with proof of parentage through DNA and relevant information on the health and working qualifications of parentage and ancestors. The addendum pedigree will provide space for the inclusion of Hip and Elbow results, working qualifications, and proof of DNA and will stay with the dog for life.
Please have a look at our GSA Groups page to find your local group.
