Irish Universal Sieger Show 2011
In 2009 Herr Henke, the President of the World Union of German Shepherd dog clubs (WUSV) proposed an annual Universal (World Championship) Sieger Show to be hosted by a different country each year commencing with Austria in the year 2011.
The objective of the WUSV is to bring closer together the dedicated Schutzhund and breed ring German Shepherd dogs and achieve a more uniform type in terms of construction, working ability and character.
Herr Henke requested all member countries to hold a Universal Sieger Show in their respective countries each year.
GSA Ireland held the first Universal Sieger Show for German Shepherd Dog in Ireland between April 29 and May 1, 2011.
The event at St Patrick's GAA grounds in Dundalk comprised a National Schutzhund Trial and a Breed show over one weekend.
Eligible dogs could take part in the trial, the show, or both.
Dogs which attained sufficient points in the trial and the best show grading can now proceed to the first annual Universal Sieger Show in Austria commencing on June 23 2011.
The working judge for the Irish Universal Sieger show Herr Harald Hohmann was visiting Ireland for the first time and has been a judge for over 25 years, officiating at trials all over the world including America.
Breed judge Herr Frank Goldlust judged in Ireland in 2002 and is a very respected judge throughout the world.
Both judges were present at the trial and the show components of the weekend.
The Irish National Trial – which is also a qualifier for the World Schutzhund Championships in Ukraine, later this year, started on Friday April 29 with the National Tracking Championship in perfect conditions on the Cooley Penninsula North Dundalk.
Twelve dogs competed. The tracklayers were Saul Wolsoncroft of the GSD League Gt. Britian and David Buckley who is working warden with GSA (Ireland) and was also field steward for the weekend.
Irish National Tracking Champion was Brian Simpson with Vee vom Karthago with 99 points.
Saturday morning, May 30, saw the commencement of the obedience and protection rounds, Herr Hohman commented on the very high standard of the 11 dogs who competed.
Protection work helpers were Saul Wolsoncroft and Tommy Murphy (GSA Ireland).
Top obedience was Carol Phillips with Haus Bailey Flint (94) and best protection was Nick Warman with Graf von Nabal (98).
Carol and Flint were overall trial winners with a total score of (282) and therefore Irish National Schutzhund Champions for 2011.
Thanks must go to our friends and collegues who travelled from England to compete and support the trial, giving the event an international flavour.
Thanks must also go to the judges, helpers, tracklayers, the organising committee - who ensured that this first inaugural event ran very smoothly - the mammoth efforts of the catering team, the O’Hanlon family for all their hard work and for securing the excellent venue and tracking lands over three days and to the GAA and local landowners for allowing the event access to their property."
